Miami Children’s Hospital earns awardsBy Rachel Perry
Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH) was presented four awards recognizing the organization for its business improvement practices during the 2009 Global Six Sigma & Business Improvement Awards annual awards ceremony, held October 14 in Orlando. Miami Children’s received more awards than any other entrant during the event, which is the largest gathering of the Global Six Sigma business improvement community. The Global Six Sigma and Business Improvement Awards are given in recognition of outstanding organizational achievements through the deployment of Six Sigma and Lean business improvement models. The focus of this elite awards program is to honor corporations that have implemented business improvement initiatives resulting in organizational excellence. This year, the summit received entries from organizations based in Canada, India, the United Kingdom and United States. MCH received the following honors: • The Platinum Award for Process Excellence Project • Best Application of Lean Tools within a Business Excellence Project • Best Emerging Business Improvement Deployment • Best Project Achievement in Health and Safety MCH President and CEO Dr. Narendra Kini has been instrumental in introducing to the hospital the Lean business improvement model. “We have been examining clinical processes throughout the organization, bringing about tangible results for patients and their families, including shorter wait times and faster registration processes. The Miami Children’s Hospital family has truly embraced Lean. Together we look ahead to continuously improving the care experience,” Dr. Kini said. |
