Brazen and covert home robbers pulled off

Brazen and covert home robbers pulled off an audacious appliance heist in one local neighborhood between 10 a.m., Aug. 24 and 2 p.m., Aug. 25. Gables’ finest were summoned to 2515 De Soto Blvd. by Julio Hernandez, 49, after her checked his home and noticed he had been robbed. Hernandez told police that the thieves unknown broke into the home through a rear entrance. Once inside his home, the thieves stole over $9,600 worth of appliances including a refrigerator, a range hood, a cook top, two ovens, a dishwasher, a wine cooler as well as the home’s washer and dryer. Damage to the homes’ doors, windows and gates were estimated at $10,530. Crime scene investigators determined that the thieves used gloves during the robbery in order to hide their identity. Hernandez was issued a case card for the loss and damage to his home.

Some lowlife unknown borrowed a car from a local man and forgot to ask for his permission between 7 p.m., Aug. 24 and 7 a.m., Aug. 25. Miguel Pena, 44, summoned police to 1400 Douglas Rd. in reference to his missing car. Pena told police that he parked his 2000 Honda Civic at his apartment building without incident the prior night. Pena also relayed to the officer on the scene that he did not owe any money for the Honda. Pena was issued a case card and sent on his way.

A verbal dispute almost got out of control at a local construction site at 4:20 p.m., Aug. 25. Gables’ finest were summoned to 343 Majorca Ave after receiving a call from a man claiming that he had been threatened by a construction site worker. Hermes Soza, 44, an engineer with Douglas Construction Group told responding officers that he was inspecting a building at the aforementioned location when he got into a verbal disagreement with  Louis Pernice, 46, a construction worker on site. According to Soza’s account, Pernice was asked to redo some work that. Soza advised was not up to the city’s building code. Soza explained that states Pernice became irate and allegedly yelled, “This motherf*cker Latino wants me to do what he wants. You shouldn’t be in this country anyway. If you don`t leave here, I`m going to push you off the fifth floor." When asked by officers about the comment, Pernice said that there was an argument, but he did not say any of the alleged comments. Pernice added that Soza was the one cursing at him in Spanish. Police were unable to corroborate the two stories due to the fact that no witnesses were present during the alleged incident.
