Someone forgot to ask before permanently borrowing

Someone forgot to ask before permanently borrowing a car belong to a local woman between 3 and 5:41 a.m., Aug. 3.  Raymunda Taleno, 35, summoned police to 835 Salzedo St. after she noticed that her car was missing. Taleno told the officer on the scene that she parked her 1996 Honda Accord in front of her mother’s house the previous night. She also stated that her mother’s boyfriend saw the car at approximately 3 a.m. Taleno was given a case card for her loss and sent on her way.

A local security supervisor was the victim of a nasty phone scam at 3:45 p.m., Aug. 3. George Gonzalez, 47, a security supervisor for a building located at 121 Alhambra Pl. called police to report a fraudulent incident that occurred on his watch. Gonzalez recounted that the whole incident started after he received a call from a man purportedly from Auto Loan Network. The man stated he was aware that Gonzalez had been looking to buy a car and then asked how much money Gonzalez was seeking to borrow. Gonzalez responded $4,000 and the man asked him for his date of birth, social security number and address. Not aware of the scam, Gonzalez gave the unknown male all of his information hoping to get approved for the loan. When Gonzalez asked the man for his phone number, the stranger refused and said a representative from Auto Loan Network would be calling him in the near future. Gonzalez told the investigating officer that later that evening he went home and searched the company on the internet and discovered he had been scammed. Gonzalez was given a case card.

Gas thieves were on the prowl in one local neighborhood between 8:30 p.m., Aug. 3 and 9 a.m., Aug. 4. Richard Guiler, 55, raised the alarm and sent for police assistance at 2520 Lejeune Rd, after some lowlife removed the gas from his truck. Guiler explained to the officer on the scene that he discovered that lowlife(s) unknown had removed 10 gallons of gas from his 1989 Nissan pickup truck. The lowlife(s) unknown cut the trucks fuel line in order to successfully drain and remove the gas. Damage to the truck was estimated at $100.

Home robber(s) unknown struck an unsuspecting home and made off with jewelry and a firearm between 10 p.m., Aug. 4 and 12:40 p.m., Aug. 7. Police were summoned to a home owned by Jeffery Steinhour, 45, located at 635 North Greenway Dr. after the family’s maid discovered that the home had been robbed. The maid told police that she discovered the break-in when she returned to work. Once inside, the robber(s) stole a red pillow case, a $1,700 Chanel necklace and a Beretta shotgun. The maid also added that Steinhour was on vacation and would return sometime in the future.

Pens and alarm clocks were enough to prompt some lowlife to shoplift from a local bookstore at 2:20 p.m., Aug. 4. The manager of the Barnes and Noble located at 152 Miracle Mile summoned police to his store after he witnessed a lowlife leave the store without paying for four pens and two alarm clocks. The manager showed police the surveillance tape in which the young lowlife can be seen entering the store, pilfering the products and exiting without paying. The lowlife was last seen with the stolen goods in hand peddling a beach cruiser bicycle away from the scene. Estimated value of the lowlife’s heist was estimated at $130.
